The Last Days of Judas Iscariot

This weekend I had the pleasure of seeing a friend in the theatrical production of ‘The Last Days of Judas Iscariot.’  The play tells the story of the ultimate fate of Judas Iscariot, the infamous disciple who betrayed Jesus.

'The Last Days of Judas Iscariot’ was written by Stephen Adly Guirgis and originally debuted off broadway in 2005.  The play features flashbacks, lawyers, and testimonies from the Apostles, Saint Monica, Mother Teresa in a courtroom style trial to determine if Judas should go to Heaven or hell.

The production was presented by Lost Angel Productions and directed by Jeffrey Boulton.  The cast included, Daniel Rivera as Judas, Spencer Sickmann as Satan, Michael Philbrick as Pontius Pilate and Dexter White as Jesus.

The three hour show was thoroughly entertaining.  It made you laugh.  It made you cry and to top it off, the acting was phenomenal.

I was fortunate enough to see the show twice, which really put things into perspective. I was raised catholic and attended catholic school.  The first time I saw the show, I had difficulty following along. I had completely forgotten the nine years of catholic school religion class and found began to feel a tinge of guilt.

Before the second show, I brushed up on the play and the story of judas Iscariot. This made the second show that much better. Everything made sense and following along was easier to do.

Despite my guilt during the first show, each viewing experience was different and special in its own right.

The play’s premise really challenges your on faith and questions what one considers right and wrong.

Did Judas deserve what he got?
